Demetria Frank was recently named new head coach of the Lady Wildcat basketball team following the departure of Janell Crayton Del Rosarios after five seasons as coach including a 7-26 season.
Vice President for Athletics Reggie Theus hailed the announcement as an exciting step forward for the Wildcats, who reportedly selected Frank from more than 200 applications.
Frank becomes the eighth head coach in program history and returns to Bethune-Cookman University as one of its most accomplished alumni. From 2007 to 2012, she built an impressive playing career, finishing as the team’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,567 points. She also set records in free throws and steals, even leading NCAA Division I in steals during her senior season. Her performance earned her multiple All MEAC honors and recognition as one of the top defenders in the country.
After her time as a player, Frank began her coaching journey at B-CU before continuing her career at George Mason University. Most recently serving as associate head coach, she helped lead the Patriots to multiple 20-win seasons, including a historic 27 to 6 record and their first Atlantic 10 Tournament championship. Her leadership played a key role in turning the program into a consistent contender.
In a statement, Frank said she is “beyond excited and truly humbled” to return home and lead the Wildcats. A Miami native with professional playing experience overseas, she brings both high level knowledge and a strong connection to the university. With her return, Bethune Cookman looks to rebuild a championship culture and continue developing student athletes on and off the court.
Frank was selected to lead the program, with an official, formal introduction taking place on April 16, 2026. She is tasked with rebuilding the team using a recruiting strategy focused on the transfer portal, junior colleges, and high schools, according to a statement from B-CU Athletics.
