While many spring teams were away, Bethune-Cookman University’s Track and Field team stayed local and dominated during a local competition, with two Wildcats standing out for their exceptional performances.
Senior Kasie Ugeh had a career highlight at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Classic on April 2-4 in Daytona Beach. Ugeh earned first-place finishes in both the shot put, throwing 13.87 meters, and the discus, where she set a new program record with an impressive 49-meter throw.
Ugeh has been a consistent contributor to the team all season, but this weekend, she took her performance to a whole new level.
On the men’s side, Jonathan Gaines continued his climb up the leaderboard. The 6-foot-1-inch Jacksonville native won the 400-meter race with a time of 48.19 seconds. Gaines’ steady improvement has been a key factor in the Wildcats’ success across multiple events.
Each week, the Bethune-Cookman Office of Athletic Communications honors one male and one female student-athlete with the Wildcats of the Week award. This recognition celebrates athletes who excel not only on the field but also in the classroom and community, embodying the Championship Culture of Wildcat Athletics.
