The Twilight series is 5 movies based on the books by Stephenie Meyer and follows Bella Swan, a quiet, awkward teen who moves to Forks, Washington, and ends up falling in love with Edward Cullen, who is a vampire. Their love story was everything but simple and easy though. Edward’s family doesn’t drink human blood, but that doesn’t mean Bella is safe. On top of that, her childhood friend Jacob turns out to be a werewolf, and vampires and werewolves don’t exactly get along.
The whole series, which had a $401 million budget and grossed over $3.36 billion worldwide at the box office, is basically Bella trying to navigate this love triangle while also dealing with supernatural drama, life-threatening situations, and eventually, her own transformation.
Visually speaking, the fantasy/romance movies released between 2008 and 2012 have a very dark, moody feel, which fits the story well. The setting in Forks makes everything seem mysterious, and the soundtrack? Pretty solid. Artists like Paramore and Muse really add to the vibe.
Now, let’s talk about the acting. Kristen Stewart as Bella comes off as really stiff most of the time, and Robert Pattinson’s Edward is just as broody as you’d expect. Taylor Lautner, as Jacob, brings some energy, but sometimes the love triangle feels forced. The special effects—especially in the earlier movies—are a little rough, like the awkward CGI wolves, but they improve over time.
Overall, Twilight is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it kind of series. If you’re into supernatural romance, dramatic stares, and love triangles, it’s worth watching. If not, you might find it a little hard not to cringe. But whether you love it or love to make fun of it, it’s a pop culture moment that’s hard to ignore. I know it’s been one of my favorites for years!
